About Us

The adaptive dance club is an experience for all. This club brings the joy of dance to everyone regardless of dance experience. Our dance classes integrate mainstream high school students and students in the special education department. We meet every monday for 45 minutes. Our classes are so much fun and we are always laughing and having a great time. The club is just as much a place to create friendships as it is a place to dance!

Establishment

The Adaptive Dance Club was created by my sister and I three years ago. When I was in seventh grade and she was a junior, we worked together to make this club a reality. This year is the fourth year of the adaptive dance club. As well as a co-founder, I am the president of the club. I prepare all of the material and create each class lesson, along with teaching and running each class.

End of the Year Show

Last year the adaptive dance club had their first ever end of the year show. At the end of last year during 1st and second lunch, we held a small show in the fitness room. We performed 5 short dances, to songs picked by the dancers. Students and staff memembers were invited to come watch all of our hardwork. It was so much fun, and we can't wait for this year's show!

A Typical Class

Our typical class starts with a warm up, to get all our muscles warm before we start to stretch. Once everything is warm, we always do some stretching, and work on our flexibility. After we stretch we usually make a big circle and play our name game. One at a time each person in the circle says their name and does a dance move. Once everyone shares, we do them all in order and it makes a fun little dance. Next, we usually go across the floor and practice some of our bigger moves that travel. We also go across the floor and try to portray a specific emotion or situation through our movements. Then near the end of class we will learn a little dance combination. Finally we love to end our classes with some freeze dance!
